Look what craigslist did

On this day in 2006 at 1:30 p.m., I had a blind date with a fellow at Haymarket. He didn't show up until 1:40, seemed scattered, had paint on his ear, wore boots with shorts and, frankly, didn't ring my bell. I looked into his eyes and thought, "Here's a guy I will never see again."

A few hours after our date, I did see him again at the intersection of Main and King. He was by Silverscape and I was by the courthouse. I crossed to the Sweeties side of the street and kept my head turned so that he wouldn't notice me. I didn't want to complicate things by talking to him again.

I bumped into JBo at the Stop & Shop and told her about the date. We assigned him a name and decided that I should probably send him my non-rejection rejection e-mail -- "It was nice meeting you; good luck in the future" -- or not e-mail him at all.

But then, later that same day, I got an e-mail from him that was the sweetest e-mail I ever got in my life. Also the scariest, because this guy figured out in about 90 minutes what it took me five years of quality therapy to figure out about myself. It certainly gave me pause. "Maybe I ought to give this guy another chance," I thought.

And, well, I'm glad I did.

He is the best thing that's ever happened to me. I am extraordinarily fortunate to have him. I can't imagine my life without him in it. I almost didn't have that initial date. I almost dismissed him out of hand. If he hadn't written me that e-mail, I might not have written him. It gives me a pain about the heart to think of all this beauty I could have missed.

Scott Welsch, you make me the happiest I've ever been. Happy second first-date-iversary, darling.

Actually, Blogger has this new thing where you can post-date your posts and they'll show up exactly when you want them to. I wanted this to be posted at the very start of our first-date-iversary so that anyone who stopped by the site today would know what an important day it is to me.

am i lucky/fortunate or what? not only am i lucky with the obvious myszkowski-relationship-thang and the health and the friends and the family and the current job, but i'm also lucky i purchased a (used) copy of "101 E-Mails To Impress People You Meet Online". (yes, that was a joke, but perhaps not a bad idea for a real book.) jennifer does deserve a serious/flattering/sincere response from me, but i'm not going to express it here or anywhere else on the internet, but i would like to say here that one thing that gave me confidence very early on that i was on the right path in falling in love with Jennifer was meeting many of her friends. i have long believed that a person's friends, the people who are drawn to a person, the people a person choooses to maintain a caring bond with, those people reflect a lot about a person. i knew when i met and liked so many of jennifer's friends (margaret, jeremy, jennifer, bill, kelsey, jaime(sp?), kristen (sp?), pat, jennifer, jennifer, jennifer, jennifer, the other jennifer, etc., etc., etc.,) that i wanted to be a part of this wonderful group. So today I'd like to make it official and announce the formation of The Double-Secret Jennifer A. Myszkowski Fan Club. To perform the The Secret Salutation between members of TD-SJAMFC: 1. Make a fist with your left hand; 2. Extend your left index finger; 3. Place the thumb-side of your left index finger against the skin just above your upper lip; 4. Say "mustache". 5. (or rather "0.") drawing hairlike lines (or actually cultivating hair) on the middle-finger side of your left index finger is recommended, but not required. To learn why TD-SJAMFC is "Double-Secret" you will have to ask an initiated member in person and in private. special p.s. to people who know who they are: i don't blame or hold anything against the overwhelming majority of the people who thought i seemed like bad news in bad news's clothing. Delicate flowers deserve protection. I think it's quite natural, normal, and appropriate for people to want only the best for the people they love and to be suspicious of mysterious people who dare claim to be worthy to standing next to a known winner. i am grateful to those of you who accept me for who i am, and i continue to enjoy getting to know better more and more people who have connected with my sweet, the wonderful Jennifer Myszkowski. ("mustache".)

STOP IT! BEFORE I OPENLY WEEP OVER EVERYTHING!

You two - you two are just, just the best. I usually reserve that comment for one other couple - not my parents, my brother and his lovely wife, nor hell - even me and Jaime (points for the spelling, Scott!) but for an elderly couple who found each other late in life who life on the upper west side of NYC. They're the most patient beautiful people with one another like you two are. I'm just glad you found each other about twenty years earlier than they did.

Happy May Eighth to one and all!

Congratulations from one of the other 27 jennifers. You guys are so cute together and I predict a long and wonderful future. As it happens, my husband first asked me out on May 7th, and that was 11 lovely years ago. And, he has a moustache! Moustache!

Jennifer - It makes me happy to know that you're happy in your relationship.
From my personal experience, I know what it's like to have found one's soul-mate. It's a rare and wonderful thing. Some of us have to wait a little longer than others to (finally) be with that person. But it's worth the wait! And we have until eternity to be together, so what if we had to wait 16 or so years!
I hope you and Scott have many happy, blissful years together.
